BMW has been on the receiving end of a backlash from X users because the German brand doesn’t want to be associated with a Nazi-owned social media platform. The decision to leave the spiraling pile of shit that used to be Twitter follows the social media site’s owner, Elon Musk, performing two Nazi victory salutes on TV in front of the presidential seal following Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration.
“Why would a German car company that owes its existence to a complete Nazi bastard 70 years ago not want to be associated with a Nazi owned social media platform in 2025?” Asks one confused X user. “BMW has become totally woke since 1999 when it became a founding member of the foundation ‘Remembrance, Responsibility and Future’ for the compensation of former forced laborers during the Nazi era,” complains another.
Others are surprised people could think that Musk’s Nazi salute was a Nazi salute:

He’s an antisemite, a racist, uses Nazi-like rhetoric, bought Twitter so white supremacists can post without fear of censorship, and supports an ultra-right wing German political party. Why would he throw a Nazi victory salute while giving a victory speech after the politician he bought won? I mean, it doesn’t even look like a seig heil.” – @reltih88
